Vietnam’s Green GSM Have Arrived in Metro Manila — Here’s Everything You Need to Know

by Carolyn Hansen

Metro Manila traffic has always been horrific— slow, noisy, polluted, and expensive. But starting June 2025, something fresh is rolling into town. Vietnam’s Green GSM (Green and Smart Mobility), an electric taxi service backed by VinFast, is now operating in the metro. This is more than just another ride-hailing option. It’s a clean, quiet, and game-changing shift in the way we move.

Let’s break down what this means for commuters like you.

What Is Green GSM?

Green GSM is Vietnam’s first 100% electric taxi company. It’s short for “Green and Smart Mobility,” and it’s powered by VinFast, Vietnam’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer.

The company first made waves in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. It later expanded to Laos and Indonesia. Now, it’s setting up shop in the Philippines — with Metro Manila as its first market.

The big deal? All of Green GSM’s vehicles are electric. No gas. No fumes. Just clean, quiet transport.

Backed by a Major Conglomerate with Support from the PH Government

Vietnamese ride-hailing firm Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Company (GSM), a private company owned by Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong — the billionaire founder of Vingroup, one of Vietnam’s largest conglomerates — is now making its move in the Philippines. The company aims to offer eco-friendly taxi services using VinFast electric cars exclusively, and they’ve been planning since 2024.

This initiative is not only a business expansion — it’s also part of a larger regional push for sustainable EV transportation.

In fact, GSM and Vingroup were among the companies personally met by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and DTI Secretary Alfredo Pascual during the official Presidential Visit to Vietnam in January 2024. The plan aligns with the Philippine government’s strong drive to attract sustainability-driven investments, especially in support of our transition toward electric mobility.

When and Where Is It Available?

Green GSM began its soft launch in Metro Manila in June 2025. The rollout is being done gradually, so don’t expect hundreds of cabs overnight. But you’ll start seeing their cyan blue electric taxis around major areas soon.

How Do You Book a Ride?

You’ve got options. Book a ride using their official mobile app or hail one from the street like a regular taxi.

✅ Download the App:

You can also call their official hotline:
📞 (02) 7777-8080

The app works just like Grab or Angkas. Open it, enter your pickup and drop-off points, choose a ride option, and book. The app shows your fare upfront, no surprises.

What Makes Green GSM Different?

Let’s talk benefits — and why this isn’t just another ride-hailing clone.

💨 1. 100% Electric, Zero Emissions

Their fleet uses VinFast EVs — no gasoline, no diesel. Just clean electric rides. Better for your lungs, better for the city.

🔇 2. Quiet and Comfortable

Electric cars are whisper-quiet. No engine noise, no rattling parts, no exhaust smell. Just a smooth, peaceful ride.

💰 3. Transparent Pricing

Their fares are upfront and competitive. The app shows you the total cost before you even hit "Book." Early users say the pricing is cheaper than most ride-hailing apps.

📲 4. App and On-Street Booking

You’re not locked into the app. You can still wave down a Green GSM cab from the street — just like old-school taxis, but electric.

🧑‍✈️ 5. Trained, Professional Drivers

Drivers undergo training to offer better service. Clean cars, polite interactions, and efficient routes are part of the package.

🔒 6. Safety First

Their “S2S” or Secure to Safe system puts an emphasis on safety for women, children, and seniors. Expect strict protocols and a customer-first approach.

The Bigger Picture: Why This Matters

Metro Manila badly needs a reset when it comes to transportation. The introduction of Green GSM:

  • Cuts air pollution
  • Lowers carbon emissions
  • Promotes electric vehicle adoption
  • Raises the bar for customer service in public transport

And they’re just getting started. As their fleet grows and routes expand, expect Green GSM to become a serious player in the transport scene.
